Each of us has a unique reaction to our environment…
Working from my studio in Ayr, I draw inspiration from my personal connections and emotions linked with the coastal landscape of Scotland.
My abstract paintings are intuitive, ethereal, multi-layered artworks with a strong focus on texture and collage.
Gathering memories and found objects relating to a place or moment in time, I aim to create complex areas of intimate detail within expressive, abstract landscapes that combine the rich textures and organic pattern found in nature.
My background is in Textiles and I graduated from Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen in 1992 with a BA(Hons) Degree in Textile Design and Surface Decoration and my love of textiles continues to influence my current work.
I work with Acrylic paint and mixed media, usually working in a series of paintings. These paintings are completed over a period of several weeks or months, depending on their size. I gradually build layers of texture and marks, semi-transparent glazes and collage, adding and subtracting with each application to create depth and history in each piece.
